Position

  • You will actively work on a PhD thesis in economics under the supervision of Prof. Sebastiaan Maes.

  • The research focuses on integrating spatial dimensions into household decision-making, studying interactions between partner, labor, housing, and location choices.

  • You will publish scientific articles related to the research project.

  • You will carry out a limited number of teaching and research support tasks for the Department of Economics.

Profile

  • Strong interest in household economics, demand analysis, and structural econometrics.

  • Master’s degree in Economics, Applied Economics, Social Economics, or Business Engineering.

  • Excellent academic results.

  • Good knowledge of econometrics and quantitative methods.

  • Excellent English language skills (written and spoken).

  • Teaching competences aligned with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision.

  • Research qualities in line with faculty and university research policies.

  • Demonstrates quality, integrity, creativity, and cooperation.

What We Offer

  • Doctoral scholarship for 1 year, renewable for up to 4 years after positive evaluation.

  • Planned start date: 1 June 2026, or as soon as possible after that.

  • Monthly scholarship according to University of Antwerp doctoral scholarship rates.
