At the Science & Technology Group, Faculty of Science, Department of Mathematics, Department of Statistics and Risk Management on the Leuven campus, there is a full-time vacancy in independent academic staff in the domains of Financial Mathematics or Mathematical Statistics. Candidates must have a PhD in Mathematics or Statistics or an equivalent degree. Candidates are expected to develop research activities at a high international level in the domains of financial mathematics or mathematical statistics, possibly in combination with stochastics or probability theory, which strengthen and preferably complement the existing research in the department. Candidates are expected to have an excellent research record and very good teaching skills, to contribute to the department's research output and to the quality of its teaching programme. Candidates must also be prepared to contribute to scientific services, both within and outside the university, and to education at bachelor's and master's level.

Profile

  • You have a PhD in mathematics or statistics, or an equivalent degree.
  • You have a strong track record in research in the field of financial mathematics or mathematical statistics. You have a strong research record and you have international research experience. The research quality is evidenced by publications in leading international journals and/or conferences. International research experience is highly appreciated.
  • You have demonstrable qualities for academic education. Teaching experience and broad direct employability for education are plus points.
  • You have organizational skills and you are collegial. You also have leadership capabilities in a university context.
  • A good knowledge of English is a requirement. KU Leuven offers academic English courses. The administrative language of KU Leuven is Dutch. If you do not know any or not enough Dutch when you are recruited, KU Leuven will provide training that should allow you to participate in board meetings. Before you teach a lesson assignment in Dutch, you will be given the opportunity to acquire the required knowledge of Dutch.

  • Depending on your file and qualifications, you will be appointed or appointed to one of the ranks of the senior academic staff: lecturer, senior lecturer, full professor or full professor. Junior researchers are in principle appointed as tenure track lecturers for a period of 5 years; afterwards, if the evaluation is positive, they are permanently appointed as senior lecturers.
