The Department

The Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, is the largest faculty at Monash University and offers the most comprehensive suite of professional health training in Victoria. Monash is a leading provider for undergraduate and postgraduate nursing and midwifery education in Victoria and has a world-class reputation, consistently ranked in the Top 20 Globally in the QS World University Rankings for Nursing (ranked 14th in 2020) and consistently ranked in the Top 40 Globally in the ARWU for Nursing (ranked 19th in 2020). 

One of the largest schools for the education of Nurses and Midwives in Australia, Monash Nursing and Midwifery (MNM) offers courses at two Monash campuses – Clayton and Peninsula. The school comprises approximately 2000 students undertaking undergraduate and postgraduate courses using a range of delivery modes. Monash Nursing and Midwifery offers high-quality tertiary degrees in a vibrant and supportive learning environment to prepare students for a rewarding nursing career. Monash Nursing and Midwifery aim to build on the existing capacity to lead innovative nursing curricula and modes of delivery.

The MNM research focus concentrates on quality of care and outcomes for health service users and health care professionals, and includes knowledge generation.

The Opportunity

We are seeking remarkable candidates to provide strong and committed leadership in teaching and research with a focus on delivering world-class nursing and midwifery education. There is more than one position available.

As Professor, you will foster excellence in research, teaching, professional activities and policy development along with capitalising and building on existing educational and research strengths. Providing leadership and strategic input, the Professor will contribute significantly through both professional and administrative activities and play a major role in scholarship. This position will greatly support and influence MNM’s aim to be at the forefront of translational research nationally and internationally. 

The successful candidate will have a doctoral qualification or equivalent accreditation and will be recognised as a leader in a discipline relevant to Nursing and Midwifery. Your significant experience will demonstrate the outstanding scholarly activity of an international standard in nursing, midwifery or a related health profession along with individual research excellence and evidence of leadership through building and developing capability in an academic or research environment.

In addition, you will have proven professional leadership qualities and capacity for executive administrative responsibilities. Excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to encouraging a diverse and inclusive environment in which staff and students have the opportunity to flourish will align you with the values, beliefs, and behaviours of the Faculty and MNM.

Based at the Clayton, or Peninsula Campus the successful candidate will hold current registration as a nurse and/or midwife with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
