Description of the Subject Area

The successful candidate will lead research at the interface between chemistry and biology, with a primary focus on the discovery and development of pharmacologically active chemical tools. These can, for example, be used to elucidate biological mechanisms, investigate disease processes, and identify new target proteins. This can lay the foundation for new therapeutic strategies with potential for clinical application. The research may also involve the development of chemical tools for diagnostics, including imaging techniques.


Duties

The successful candidate will have overall responsibility for research and doctoral education within the field of pharmaceutical chemical biology, as well as supervision and teaching at first, second and third cycle levels. The position includes:

  • Leading an active research team in the subject area.
  • Contributing to the positive development of research and education within the subject in collaboration with the faculty’s researchers and teaching staff.
  • Performing administrative tasks and internal and external elected office as required.
  • Disseminating research and development activities.
  • Keeping up to date with developments in the subject area and societal developments relevant to the work.

Qualifications

  • Eligibility for appointment as professor, demonstrating both scholarly and teaching competence (Chapter 4, Section 3 of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance).
  • Research expertise demonstrated by independent research efforts and international recognition for high-quality work.
  • Proven ability to plan, initiate, lead, and develop research and education at the doctoral level.
  • Ability to obtain research grants in competitive settings.
  • Well-documented skills in supervising doctoral studies.
  • Pedagogical expertise with substantial qualifications in education (Section 22 AO).
  • Documented teaching skills in Swedish or English.
  • Completion of relevant academic teacher training, minimum ten weeks, or equivalent. If not completed, training may occur during the first two years of employment.

Assessment Criteria

  • Research Expertise: Primary consideration given to research quality, with scope, depth, ability to secure funding, and engagement with society also considered.
  • Teaching Expertise: Quality prioritized, with scope, leadership in education, and ability to link education to research evaluated.
  • Administrative Expertise: Capacity to plan, organize, and prioritize work effectively.
  • Management Expertise: Ability to lead staff, make decisions, motivate, coordinate, and manage conflicts.
  • Collaboration Expertise: Experience in education and outreach, knowledge exchange, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

Additional considerations: parental leave, part-time work, trade union responsibilities, military service, or similar activities are considered work experience. Gender equality is applied if two applicants have equal qualifications and one gender is underrepresented.
