Overview

The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a full-time Clinical or Tenure-Track Professor in Cardiology.

The successful candidate will join an established comparative cardiovascular and interventional cardiology service. This team includes:

  • 1 tenured faculty

  • 1 tenure-track faculty

  • 3 nurses

  • 4 cardiology residents

The service manages a high caseload (70–100 interventional cases per year), focusing on congenital cardiac defects, and collaborates closely with local veterinarians, breeders, and rescue groups.


Facilities & Equipment

  • Digital ECG, GE Vivid E95 echocardiography with 3 review stations

  • Portable GE Vivid iq

  • Pediatric and adult 4D TEE probes

  • Medtronic and St. Jude/Abbott pacemaker programmers

  • Hemostatic assays: thromboelastography, platelet aggregometry

  • 650 ft² interventional catheterization lab with advanced hemodynamic and imaging systems

  • State-of-the-art cardiac EP lab with Abbott EnSite 3D mapping platform

Purdue Veterinary Hospital Complex (162,500 sq ft):

  • Small Animal Hospital (65,000 sq ft expansion)

  • Equine Hospital

  • Farm Animal Hospital

The new facilities support clinical teaching, compassionate animal care, and interdisciplinary research.


Qualifications

  • Required:

    • DVM (or equivalent) degree

    • ACVIM or ECVIM board certification in Cardiology or completion of a registered cardiology residency

  • Encouraged:

    • Candidates currently in ACVIM or ECVIM approved training programs with academic career interests

  • Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience

  • Background check required


Responsibilities

Service & Engagement

  • Primary clinical case responsibility in cardiology

  • Train cardiology residents and veterinary students

  • Provide consultation within the hospital and participate in extension cardiology services

Learning

  • Clinical instruction for DVM students, house officers, and veterinary nursing students

  • Participate in didactic teaching

Discovery / Research

  • Clinical Track: Contribute to collaborative research aligned with departmental cardiovascular strengths

  • Tenure Track: Develop an independent research program in cardiology
