Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

The Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition (FSHN) seeks applicants for a Professor of Practice position. The position will be 85% teaching with primary responsibility for teaching and supporting undergraduate courses across culinary food science, dietetics, and hospitability management programs, and 15% service within the department and college. The incumbent will be expected to provide timely feedback to students, create an inclusive class environment, develop and update course content, and create course material including lectures, assignments, and exams. Continual improvement of teaching skills through participation in workshops and trainings provided by CELT, the department, and other professional organizations is expected. Additionally, participation in peer evaluation of teaching quality and impact and interaction with colleagues to develop and improve the curriculum and support student progress is expected. Incumbent will be familiar with computer programs such as Microsoft, Adobe. Etc.

 

This is a term faculty position for an initial term of one semester. Renewal of the position for additional term(s) is possible with satisfactory performance and available funding. Iowa State has a well-defined advancement structure for term faculty.

 

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management or related fields

  • 20+ years of teaching experience in coursework related to culinary arts, culinary food science, and/or hospitality management

  • Experience with program accreditation

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Fine Dining course implementation

  • Experience in Study Abroad and/or Student Exchange programs

 

Department Description:

Food Science and Human Nutrition is a comprehensive academic program with undergraduate majors in dietetics, nutritional science, food science, culinary food science, and nursing. The department is supported by the College of Human Sciences and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Our graduate programs include MS and Ph.D. options in both Nutritional Sciences and Food Science and Technology, concurrent BS/MS in Diet and Exercise, and BS in Food Science/MBA as well as an online Master in Dietetics. Inter-professional educational opportunities are valued and promoted. FSHN values student-centered learning and provide professional development opportunities related to instructional pedagogy, educational technology, and distance learning.
