Appointment requirements are governed byArticle 100 of the Berlin Higher Education Act (Berliner Hochschulgesetz – BerlHG).

Successful candidates should be able to demonstrate internationally visible, outstanding research activities on contemporary topics of numerical mathematics of deterministic and stochastic partial differential equations and the related mathematical modelling of complex multiscale systems, along with extensive, partially international, teaching experience in the field. The ability to teach in German and English is essential for this position. The applicants should also be able to demonstrate experience in designing, acquiring, and leading externally funded research projects.

Along with the regular official duties of professors listed in Article 99 of the Berlin Higher Education Act, we expect the appointee to engage in the following activities:

They will also actively participate in the Cluster of Excellence MATH+, in the collaborative research center CRC 1114 “Scaling Cascades in Complex Systems,” and the Berlin Mathematical School (BMS). Moreover, the successful appointee should take responsibility for integrating scientific computing based on solid mathematical analysis in the mathematics and computational sciences Master’s degree programs. They will also participate in undergraduate teaching at the Bachelor level (with courses that will be partially open to students from the Berlin Mathematical School) as well as in the department's courses for teachers of mathematics. They should also be prepared to fill any gaps in their knowledge of German and/or English within a period of three years after being appointed. The appointee is also expected to address gender and diversity issues within the scope of their teaching.

Applications should include a CV, copies of all certificates of academic qualification in German or English; letters of appointment (please add translations if applicable), a list of publications, a list of courses previously taught, and evidence of teaching aptitude.
