Duties and responsibilities
  • Teaching practical ethics at all levels of higher education using modern teaching methods and educational technology.
  • Supervising students (primarily master’s and doctoral students).
  • Ensuring the availability of future academic staff in the field.
  • Activities related to the administration and development of teaching, incl. teaching development.
  • High-level RDC activities in practical ethics (incl. especially medical ethics, environmental ethics, research ethics, AI ethics).
  • Leading and directing RDC activities in their specialisation, taking care that necessary resources, incl. research funding, are available, and taking responsibility for the performance of RDC activities.
  • Directing a research theme or a part of it and within this work, supervising other academic staff involved in RDC activities.
  • International-level research in the volume of at least 8 publications in five years.
  • Participation in the activities of research organisations, social and public activities, incl. popularising practical ethics.
  • Performing at least one management function at the university.
  • Participation in activities related to the promotion and application of practical ethics on a national or international level.
  • Development of skills in above-mentioned areas.

Required qualifications
PhD or an equivalent qualification.

Required experience
  • The ability to teach the subjects in practical ethics at all levels of higher education and have knowledge of modern teaching methods and learning environments.
  • Previous teaching experience at least at the first two levels of higher education is required, incl. effective supervision of master’s and doctoral students.
  • Experience in compiling teaching aids and materials for institutions of higher education.
  • The ability to direct a research theme in the field of practical ethics and supervise academic staff within the research theme.
  • Internationally recognised research equivalent to at least three doctoral theses in total (and research in the past five years in a volume equivalent to at least 1.5 doctoral theses).
  • Success in applying for research funding and accomplishing research grants in the past five years.
  • Experience in team or project management.
  • International experience, participation in the work of the international community of the specialisation.
  • Previous work experience as an expert in foreign institutions.
  • Experience in popularisation and participation in activities related to the promotion and application of practical ethics on a national or international level.

Required language skills
Very good command of English required. The ability to speak Estonian is not required at the time of application, but according to the Language Act, academic staff with foreign citizenship working in Estonia must have acquired at least B1-level Estonian language skills after five years of work. This requirement will be added to the contract. The Centre for Professional Development offers foreigners and their family members the opportunity to participate in Estonian language courses.

From 3100 € / per month

If the candidate has acquired the higher education in question abroad, he or she may be required to submit an assessment issued by the Academic Recognition Information Centre (the Estonian ENIC/NARIC) of his or her qualification in respect of the qualification requirements for the position.
  5. A statement not exceeding 1500 words of the aims to be achieved during the term in the position, and the outline of an action plan for achieving these.
  6. Other materials considered relevant by the candidate (a list of such materials must be included in the application or annexed to it).
