The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Basel invites applications for a professorship in Art History of the Early Modern Period, starting February 1, 2025 or by appointment.
Your position
The position is part of the Department of Arts, Media, and Philosophy. We expect the professor to be active in the BA and MA programs in art history, in the MA program in art history and image theory, in the eikones doctoral program, and in Basel's interdisciplinary cluster in early modern studies. The successful candidate should be dedicated to teaching, participate in national and international research projects, secure external funding for projects, and be active in university committees.
Your profile
We seek an individual whose teaching and research addresses both the historical depth and breadth of artistic media and techniques from the 15th to the 18th centuries. Teaching and research should encompass at least two different focal areas of European art history and should open up new perspectives on the profound aesthetic, religious, epistemic, and economic transformations of art in the early modern period.
Applicants should demonstrate an outstanding publication record and show international scholarly activities since receiving their PhD.
Excellent proficiency in English is required; proficiency in German or, alternatively, a commitment to learn German within two years of the appointment is expected.
