is to be filled as soon as possible.

The Institute of General and Vocational Education at Technical University of Darmstadt focuses on a large variety of educational topics using historical-systematic, hermeneutic, qualitative-empirical and quantitative-empirical research methods.

The professorship strengthens an educational perspective on education and Bildung in the context of digitalization. The focus is on socially urgent questions in the course of digitalization, mediatization, automation, globalization, sustainability, networking and the associated increases in complexity. Linking the education-related debates about digitalization and sustainability is of central importance in view of the global challenges.

The professorship deals with fundamental topics in the field of theories of education and Bildung considering the progressive digitalization of areas of life and work. In addition, the institute holds the following research topics for particularly relevant:

    • Education and training for sustainable development
    • Global learning and social-ecological transformation
    • Mediatization, media practices and education
    • Responsibility in the context of increasing datafication

Two of the research topics mentioned should be covered by the job holder. In addition, the successful applicant is expected to be identified in more than one research methodological approach.

Teaching responsibilities will be in the major courses of study for the Bachelor in Pedagogy, the Master in Education and in the educational modules of the teacher training courses. Specifically, the professorship is involved in the networking area of the STEM-oriented teacher degree program and represents the module "Pedagogical understanding of natural science and sustainable development".

Further commitment to interdisciplinary and international research cooperation and active participation in the development of teacher training courses are expected of the successful applicant. As well as an excellent ability to carry out scientific work, based on a qualified dissertation, a special pedagogical suitability is required for teaching.

The position is tenured with a remuneration package commensurate with experience and qualifications, following the German "W-Besoldung" and subject to negotiations between the applicant and the university directorate. The regulations for employment are specified under §§ 61 and 62 HHG (Hessisches Hochschulgesetz).
