Project Scientist and AssociateTeam Director-QB3, UC Berkeley

Description: The candidate will research the mechanism of PINK1 and Parkin-dependent mitophagy in neurons while also directing the scientific coordination of a new six-lab international team engaged for the benefit of Parkinson's Disease treatment discovery.


The successful candidate will spend up to 50% of their time on scientific coordination tasks. This will include ensuring that various efforts in biochemical reconstitution, structural biology, cell imaging, cell function, and integrative modeling are using compatible materials, including but not limited to protein constructs, fusion tags, dyes, cell lines, and lipid mixtures. They will ensure that data are shared within the team on a real time basis using consistent platforms and communication tools. They will ensure that data are shared with the sponsor and other teams in the sponsor's network such that the team will have timely access to data and materials. The candidate will spend the other 50% of their time contributing to the ASAP research project carried out at UC Berkeley, which they may design within the overarching area of mechanistic studies of mitophagy in neurons and in collaboration with the six member labs.This could involve biochemistry, structural biology, cell imaging, or modeling.

Minimum/Basic Qualifications required at the time of application:

PhD. or equivalent international degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

Documented experience in an international collaboration in the general area of autophagy or a related aspect of cell biology or neurobiology.
Experience in one or more of in vitro reconstitution of membrane biochemistry, protein biochemistry, cell imaging, or structural biology.
One year previous postdoctoral experience in Biochemistry, Structural Biology, Biophysics, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or related field.

This position is full-time (100%). The appointment will be for a three year period but subject to review at the two year mark. Reappointment beyond a third year will be contingent on continued project funding.
