The positions will be part of the German Research Foundation (DFG)-funded project “Trait-based theory of network reassembly” within the Research Unit 5207 “Reassembly of species interaction networks – Resistance, resilience and functional recovery of a rainforest ecosystem”.

The successful candidate will investigate ways to statistically estimate processes of interaction patterns from data on species traits and observed interactions along a successional gradient, building on the approach of Benadi et al. (Am Nat, in press). This work will be tightly integrated with colleagues in Darmstadt focussing on simulating community assembly (lab of Prof. B. Drossel). The project provides opportunities for field work in the Chocó rainforest study area in Ecuador.

The successful applicant will hold an MSc-degree or equivalent in Ecology, Physics or a related relevant discipline and will have an interest and practical experience in statistical analyses and programming (preferably in R). Further requirements include a creative, analytical and critical mindset, the ability to work independently and to further develop the project. The position further requires good English oral and writing skills. The willingness for further scientific qualification (e.g. a PhD project within the field of ecology) is expected.

The starting date is as soon as possible (latest 01.11.2021).

The position is for a period of 4 years, if no former times of qualification must be considered. The salary will be determined in accordance with TV-L E13.
