About This Opportunity 

You will be supporting the established team in generating mutants using a recent CRISPR/Cas9 pipeline we established and in using state-of-the-art microscopy and diverse phenotypic techniques to investigate the role of each respective gene-of-interest in brain development and function. In addition, you will have the opportunity to contribute to drug discovery programs aimed at finding new anti-psychotic compounds for the clinics.

This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane’s city centre.

Our Ideal Candidate

You must have a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree or equivalent and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Experiences in the below areas are essential:

  • molecular biology including State-of-the-art cloning approaches, Digestion, Gel extraction, Transformation and mini/maxiprep
  • CRISPR technology
  • zebrafish/mouse handling, breeding and embryos collection
  • zebrafish/mouse embryos micro-injections
  • in vivo observation of fluorescence and animal observation
  • formatting results for integration in scientific manuscripts

Expertise with confocal microscopy and experience in western blotting and immunostaining and cell culture would be a distinctive advantage,

This is a fixed term, full time position up to two (2) years at HEW Level 5.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $70,796 - $78,852 per annum plus super of up to 17%.
