Overview:

About the Role

The position is funded by an ESRC grant “Business Cycles, Uncertain Growth and the Distribution of Production” coordinated by Dr. Tatsuro Senga (QMUL; Principal Investigator) and Professors Aubhik Khan and Julia Thomas (NBER, OSU).

About You

You will be educated to PhD level, in Economics or a related field. You will have thorough knowledge and research experience of Macroeconomics and Applied Econometric Techniques. Experience of coding programs in Fortran and Matlab and large administrative and survey data analysis with STATA and R/Python are required for this position. Knowledge of parallel computing (OpenMP and Open MPI) is essential.

About the Project

Policymakers have been concerned about the sources of productivity slowdown and declining business dynamism over the decade since the Great Recession. This project will advance knowledge and understanding of the interplay between aggregate productivity, economic growth, and the entry and growth of new businesses. In doing so, it will produce a new framework and solution method that, in the first instance, will help uncover the mechanisms and magnitudes involved in these linkages and, in the second instance, can be used to gauge the efficacy and costs of policies proposed to correct the trends of the past decade.
