Role Description

Department

The Department of Environment and Geography are seeking an outstanding Research Facilitator to help the Department deliver upon its ambitious vision for research, through excellence in professional support.


Role

The Research Facilitator will manage all research in the Department through co-ordinating research activity, helping to maximise and increasing research grant income, delivering ‘hands-on’ support to academics in the development of their grant applications and ensuring that our research obtains maximum possible visibility and impact. They will oversee all department research grant and research-related contracts, open access and research data management processes and prepare detailed financial breakdowns for presentation to the Department Management Team. The post holder will work in partnership with all academic staff, the Departmental Research Committee (DRC), the York Environmental Sustainability Institute (YESI), the Stockholm Environment Institute York (SEI-Y) and the University’s Research and Enterprise Office (REO), and will liaise routinely with external funders, non-academic beneficiaries and collaborators in other disciplines and Universities. The post holder will also be a member of the Department’s Professional Services Management Team and will be proactively involved in decisions that relate to research, financial planning and department strategy.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • You will have an undergraduate degree, or equivalent professional experience.
  • You will have understanding of research in a higher education environment and some knowledge of key funders for environmental and geography research
  • You will have good interpersonal skills and a high level of proficiency with IT systems
  • You will have experience in administrative or research project management experience
  • You will be proactive, customer-focussed and well organised
