£27511 to £30046 per annum (pro-rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.

The School of Geography at the University of Nottingham invites applications for a Research Assistant to support the work of Anne McLaren Fellow Alexandra Zieritz, which aims to improve our understanding of the patterns, drivers and threats to tropical freshwater biodiversity. 

The post-holder will conduct analyses of DNA metabarcoding and spatial distribution data of freshwater invertebrates sampled from >150 sites across the Malaysian Peninsula, conduct molecular laboratory analyses (including DNA extraction and PCR) on tissue and environmental DNA samples, and assist in the preparation of manuscripts and grant proposals. 

The successful candidate will have an undergraduate degree in Ecology, Geography, Zoology, Molecular Biology or related field, and a keen interest in freshwater biodiversity and conservation. They will have skills in quantitative data analysis and basic molecular laboratory work, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills.
