Research Assistant in History and Philosophy of Science

Applications are invited for a part-time Research Assistant, 29.6 hours per week (80% FTE) for a fixed-term of 12 months, working on an AHRC-funded project on the history of the scientific instrument trade in Britain. The successful candidate will be based in the Department of History and Philosophy of Science (HPS) at the University of Cambridge and will assist with the research project 'Tools of Knowledge: Modelling the Creative Communities of the Scientific Instrument Trade, 1550-1914' led by Prof. Liba Taub (Principal Investigator), in collaboration with Co-Investigators Dr Boris Jardine, Dr Joshua Nall (HPS, Cambridge), Dr Alex Butterworth (Sussex) and Rebekah Higgitt (National Museums Scotland).

The ideal candidate will have, at a minimum, an undergraduate degree or equivalent in a related field and familiarity with the history of science (or an allied subject, for example modern history; science and technology studies; geography). The candidate must have excellent organisational, writing, and communication skills; the ability to summarise and synthesise academic research; and a high level of computer literacy (especially spreadsheet and database skills).

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.
