The High Energy Physics Division at the Argonne National Laboratory has a postdoctoral opening in the Intensity Frontier Group, focusing on the physics of neutrino oscillations.
The Division performs cutting-edge research facilitated through advanced detector development, high-performance supercomputing (HPC), a superconducting test magnet facility and innovative electronic and mechanical engineering. In keeping with ANL HEPs experience with large detector systems, our group has important roles for both the far and near detectors of the DUNE long-baseline neutrino experiment at Fermilab.
The successful candidate will focus on DUNE far and near detector systems through design, production, testing, and commissioning of detector components as well as simulation and analysis of neutrino interactions. The position offers opportunities to travel to experimental sites and to attend relevant meetings, workshops, and conferences as necessary.
Some participation in our group’s muon research is an option.
Position Requirements
Applicants must have recently received a Ph.D. in particle physics, nuclear physics, or relevant subject with 0 to 3 years of experience or equivalent
Considerable skills to develop and interpret physics and background simulations, to perform measurements and to interpreting the data
Ability to use programming languages for data analysis or for modeling system performance
Demonstration of problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively as part of a team Ability to produce scientific reports and to present ideas and proposals to scientists and engineers
Experience with detector systems and/or electronics is desirable Contribute effectively within a diverse workforce and supports Argonne’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion
