The Science, Mathematics and Technology cluster at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) seeks a suitable candidate for the position of Research Assistant / Associate on a 6 to 9 months contract for physics and design education pedagogy research.

Project Title: Towards a Design-Centric Freshmore Physics Classroom Through the Reverse Engineering Pedagogy

Project Introduction: Applying physical principles is critical for the rational and quantitative designs of various products with tailored performances. We aim to create this connection through the introduction and evaluation of reverse engineering pedagogy in the Freshmore physics classrooms. We aim to evaluate the students’ ability to connect between physical first principles and product designs, to apply their engineering knowledge in product designs in a more meaningful way, and to understand physics at a deeper level.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor/Masters degree related to education and/or engineering
  • Good writing, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong planning and organisational skills
  • Able to work independently and in a team
  • Prior working experience in research projects and familiar with research methods, such as assessment, observation study, interview and/or survey will be preferred
  • Working knowledge with qualitative and quantitative data analysis software will be advantageous
  • Working knowledge of physics and engineering design principles will be advantageous

Responsibilities

  • Support and participate in research activities, and attend to the research needs such as gathering research data, research reports or meta-analysis works
  • Conduct literature searches and review
  • Manage research data and keep up-to-date research records
  • Assist in writing research reports, publications and presentation materials with minimum supervision
  • Perform data processing and analysis
  • Perform other assignments as determined by the Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigators
