Research Assistant/Associate in Elastic Manufacturing Business Models

A position exists for a Research Assistant/Associate in the Department of Engineering, to work on Elastic Manufacturing. The Research Assistant/Associate will work within the Business Model Innovation Research Group (BMI Group), the Distributed Information and Automation Laboratory (DIAL) and Centre for Technology Management (CTM) at the Institute for Manufacturing within the Cambridge University Engineering Department.

The researcher will focus on contributing to the development and refinement of the concept of elastic manufacturing systems. In addition, the researcher will focus on conducting analysis of firms/supply chains able to scale up or scale down products and services to meet changing customer demand in order to better understand the boundary of the firm, supply chain design options and business models in enabling elastic manufacturing. This will also include developing metrics for elastic manufacturing systems at the firm and supply chain levels. The researcher will also focus on developing cases to advance knowledge of sectoral elasticity requirements.

The researcher will possess skills and knowledge of an industrial or business economist. The researcher's expertise will include experience and appreciation of conducting interviews with senior management and qualitative research methods. The researcher is expected to have experience of having worked in industry and knowledge of the manufacturing industry. Applicants who have expertise will include econometric methods and related statistical analysis are desirable. Experience of knowledge of the opportunities and challenges of adopting digital technologies and innovation management would be desirable. Applications are invited from candidates who have (or are close to obtaining) a PhD in economics, management, industrial engineering or related disciplines. Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.

The post holder will be located in West Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.

Salary Ranges: Research Assistant: £27,116 - £31,406 Research Associate: £33,309 - £40,927

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 24 months in the first instance.
