Duties and responsibilities

The laboratory of Professor James Moore in the Department of Bioengineering at Imperial College London is looking for a Research Associate to develop an implantable device for the prevention of breast cancer related lymphoedema (BCRL). This incurable condition develops in approximately 20% of all breast cancer patients. The implant includes a structural component that helps encourage lymph flow and releases a growth factor that encourages the regrowth of lymphatic vessels. The goal of this project is to finalise the implant design under regulatory-compliant conditions and prepare it for preclinical and clinical testing. It is an excellent project for a PhD with an interest in medical device design and entrepreneurship

Essential requirements

You will have:
- Practical experience within a research environment and / or publication in relevant and refereed journals
- Practical experience in a broad range of techniques including computational modelling and mechanical testing
- Knowledge of biomechanics
- Knowledge of medical device development
- The ability to conduct a detailed review of recent literature
- The ability to develop and apply new concepts

Further information

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £35,477 - £38,566 per annum.
