To complement the existing faculty and research base at Imperial College Business School, the Department of Management & Entrepreneurship is seeking to appoint a Research Associate to support the activities of a Gatsby Foundation funded research project on the impact of innovations on R&D models in the biopharma sector.
You will perform a study on improving the ‘innovation productivity’ of the UK’s pharmaceutical / biopharma sector (its ability to develop and commercialise new products faster and more affordably). In particular, this work will investigate how existing R&D models in the sector are being reshaped by innovations in engineering biology, computational and data analytics, and the associated ecosystems of innovative companies and research institutions.
You will be based within the Department of Management & Entrepreneurship at Imperial College Business School, and will also be affiliated with the Centre for Health Economics & Policy Innovation (CHEPI).
Undertake a broad analysis of recent trends in the performance of the UK’s biopharma sector; Link this with theories of innovation management and productivity and the wider developments in the industrial economy; Take initiatives in planning the research; Undertake a review of existing academic, grey and industrial / policy literature, expert elicitation, stakeholder survey.
Assist with the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data, including high level modelling and development of KPIs as appropriate; Ensure the validity and reliability of data at all times; Maintain accurate and complete records of research progress and findings; Collaborate in the preparation publications for international journals when suitable; Collaborate in writing and presenting interim and final reports to research sponsors and a variety of audiences; Collaborate in dissemination activities, including attending relevant workshops and conferences; Develop contacts within the College and the wider community to further the research; Collaborate with other allied scientists within Imperial College and elsewhere in London and abroad, as appropriate.
This full-time post will commence in April/May 2021 for a fixed term until 31 December 2022.
Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as a Research Assistant within the salary range £36,045 - £39,183 per annum.
