About the Role

Applications are invited for a full-time Research Associate to work on a research project “Waste to Wealth: Tackling the agricultural wastes in Thailand to make fully recyclable packaging”, within the group of Dr Han Zhang.

The position is supported by British Council Newton Fund Institutional Links Grant, in collaboration with Mae Fah Luang University (Thailand), to address the challenges of unutilised agro-wastes and the associated environmental challenges via materials innovation.

About You

Applicants should hold a BEng or Master’s qualification in Materials Science, Polymer Science and Engineering, or a relevant subject. A PhD (obtained or close to completion) in Materials Science/Polymer Engineering or related discipline, or with equivalent research experience is desirable.

You should have knowledge and experience in polymer processing, polymer compounding with micro- and nanofiller reinforcements, standard characterisation technique for polymers and composites. Experience in natural fibre composites, biocomposites, (nano) cellulose, is also desirable. Applicants should be self-motivated and possess an ability to work independently and manage work timescales.

About the School

This post is within the School of Engineering and Materials Science, a large School with 70-80 academics and a similar number of postdoctoral research staff. There are around 1000 undergraduate and taught postgraduate students and 220 PhD students.  These are supported by an administrative and technical staff team of 45. The staff and student body are international in make-up.

The post is based at the Mile End Campus in London. It is full time, fixed term appointment for 6 months, with an expected start date of Aug 2021. The salary will be Grade 4, £31,613 per annum (pro-rata), inclusive of London Allowance.
