We are seeking a Research Associate/Fellow to take a leading role in a BBSRC funded research project entitled “Using bacteriophage to control Salmonella in pigs”. This is a collaborative project between the bacteriophage research groups at the University of Nottingham and University of Leicester, along with the computer science department at the Vienna University of Technology.
This project involves the development of a novel, precision, data-driven tool which will be used to identify candidate bacteriophage for the control of Salmonella in pigs. The result will be a complete step-change in the tools available for the control of antimicrobial-resistant pathogens and the modelling of bacteriophage interactions with their host bacteria. For the first time, we will combine big data from in vitro and in vivo trials with sophisticated AI techniques to optimise panels of phage for therapeutic application and aid decision-making.
The successful applicant will join a friendly, highly motivated and successful phage research group with wide research connections throughout the University. The post will be primarily research focused with some administrative duties. Collaboration with current research teams and projects will be essential.
In addition to the online application form candidates should submit a CV which gives details of academic qualifications, a career summary and a full list of publications.
This is a full-time (36.25 hours), fixed-term post to 31st October 2024. Arrangements for job share may be considered. Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.
Informal enquiries may be addressed to Dr Rob Atterbury, email robert.atterbury@nottingham.ac.uk. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
It is a condition of this post that satisfactory standard disclosure is obtained from the 'Disclosure and Barring Service'.
