Position Description |
Under direction of the Principal Investigator, provide moderately complex lab support for a new research laboratory focused on oral microbiology and molecular biology techniques as related to periodontology and other oral infections. Applicant must have previous experience with designing and conducting experiments related to microbiology. The position requires background and demonstrated experience in microbiology techniques and protocols, such as next generation sequencing, microbial culturing, biochemical analysis, maintenance of reference strains, biofilm growth, qPCR and multiplex bead immunoassay. The applicant will manage all aspects of this laboratory. Applicant must have demonstrated ability in conducting supervised research, possess excellent communication skills, be self-motivated, work with a high degree of integrity, and possess a willingness and ability to acquire new skills.
The applicant should be prepared to provide support as needed to graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and senior lab researchers. Other required duties are conducting literature searches and retrieving relevant articles, presenting findings related to progress at regular lab meetings, preparing and plotting data for quantitative and statistical analysis.
Responsibilities/abilities required for this position include but are not limited to: 1. Ensuring the day-to-day needs of the lab.
2. Broad knowledge of common lab equipment.
3. Planning, developing, organizing, and implementing policies, procedures and standards for lab operations.
4. Management of the laboratory budgets from industry and NIH funded grants.
This position has a term appointment of one year from the date of hire with the possibility for extension. |
Basic Qualifications |
1. A Bachelor’s Degree and 1-3 years of experience with microbiology.
2. Strong collaborative and communication skills is a must.
3. Demonstrated skills at problem solving, analytical and critical thinking, effective planning and organization, troubleshooting, and problem solving in bench work.

Additional Qualifications |
1. 3-5 years of laboratory management experience.
2. Master’s degree.
3. Previous experience with clinical samples.
4. Highly effectively communicator as both a temporary employee supervisor and as a team member.
5. Advanced computer knowledge including MS Word, MS Excel, Endnote/Mendley and database management.
