Research Associate in Neural and Molecular Basis of Psychiatric Diseases

The Department of Psychiatry at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for a Research Associate position in the Academic Support Staff. This appointment will be initially for one (1) year and continuation during that time period and renewal are based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding (limited to three (3) years). Expertise is required in the specific area of genetics, behavioral neuroscience and pharmacology,. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree.

Responsibilities may include working on the neurobiological basis of social dysfunction in NF1 using Drosophila to study this question.  The successful applicant will have an opportunity to perform frontline independent research, publish papers in the top scientific literature and develop research training for academic career. 

The successful applicant will have an opportunity to establish the Drosophila model of social behavioral dysfunction in NF1 by carrying out the proposed experiments funded by a DoD award an lead a large scale drug screen using our model and perform mechanistic experiments using genetic, behavioral, and optical imaging approaches.
