Role Description

Department

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated research associate with experience in qualitative data analyses to contribute to the multi-disciplinary team in the Martin House Research Centre (www.york.ac.uk/mhrc ).

Role

You will be a member of the Martin House Research Centre working under the direction of Professor Lorna Fraser at the University of York. This Centre is based in the Department of Health Sciences at the University of York and is a collaboration with the Social Policy Research Unit at the University of York (www.york.ac.uk/spru), the University of Leeds and Martin House Children’s Hospice (www.martinhouse.org.uk). The Centre’s aim is to undertake high quality research that will help to ensure that all children with life-limiting conditions and their families receive equitable, high quality care.

The role will involve the following responsibilities: preparing ethics applications, developing study protocols, qualitative data collection, data analyses and manuscript/report writing.

This is a 0.6 FTE, fixed term post for 12 months, starting 1st September 2021, with the potential for extensions subject to availability of further funding. 

Skills, Experience & Qualifications required

  • A PhD in a relevant topic area (or be close to submitting your PhD) and experience of undertaking secondary data analyses studies using complex, linked datasets and statistical packages.
  • Knowledge in a range of research techniques and methodologies including review methods.
  • Highly developed communication skills including the ability and demonstrable experience of writing up research work and engaging in public dissemination (e.g. conference presentation, public engagement events, publishing of papers etc.)
  • Ability to develop research objectives, projects and proposals for own and joint research, with the assistance of a mentor if required and the competency to conduct individual and collaborative research projects.

Condition of appointment

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. Consequently, all applicants will be asked to declare both unspent and spent convictions on their application form.
