Job description

Job summary

The postholder will work on the collaborative research and development (CR&D) project “The quantum data centre of the future” funded by Innovate UK and industry-led by ORCA Computing.

Duties and responsibilities

This CR&D project seeks to address the exciting near-term potential of a quantum/classical hybrid data centre of the future. This project will address this challenge through the lens of the existing industry. It brings together experts in classical data centres and networking, quantum computing and quantum communications to deliver clear and practical solutions that can be demonstrated within the lifetime of this project. As a contribution to this overarching goal, together with other partners (e.g. P. Ledingham, University of Southampton), the RA will implement, characterize and optimize a proposed long-lived ORCA quantum memory scheme at ICL and work closely with the team at ORCA Computing to transfer this knowledge to the company

Essential requirements

It is essential to the project that you have the following:

• Hold a PhD, (or equivalent) in the area of ultrafast quantum optics

• Proven research experience in experimental quantum optics

• Experimental and theoretical knowledge of optical quantum memories

Further information

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £36,045 - £39,183 per annum.
