£27924 to £40927 per annum, (pro rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience (minimum £31406 with relevant PhD). Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance

Applications are invited to support a project funded through the UKRI-BBSRC Engineering Biology Transition Award funding scheme. The work is a collaboration between the School of Life Sciences, the School of Pharmacy, the School of Chemistry and the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Nottingham. The project aims to develop the chemolithoautotrophic organism, Cupriavidus necator for sustainable bioproduction of chemicals and fuels. The project builds on a significant body of previous work undertaken in the Synthetic Biology Research Centre which is equipped with state-of-the-art gas fermentation systems, bespoke liquid-handling robotics systems and well-appointed molecular biology laboratories. The post holder will be expected to undertake independent research as well as working as part of a team. A knowledge of advanced genome editing and/or metabolic pathway analysis would be desirable. The candidate will be required to undertake research and day to day management of design, construct and test aspects of this research project, requiring a high degree of competence in the engineering biology and metabolic engineering research areas. 

Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent (pending or awarded) in a discipline relevant to metabolic engineering and synthetic biology/engineering biology.

Past experience in the use of chemolithoautotrophic organisms, is essential.

The post is offered on a full time (36.25 hours per week), fixed-term contract until 30 January 2024. Job share arrangements may be considered.
