About the team
The Oceans Graduate School engages in fundamental and applied research to find solutions for the critical issues facing our oceans, coasts and estuaries. Our School operates state-of-the-art facilities around Western Australia used for world-class marine research to investigate the ocean. The Oceans Graduate School engages with partners around the world, including other universities, governments and research institutions, so more can be done to better our oceans and ensure a healthy future for our population.
You will be part of a dynamic and supportive research group at UWA that is focussed on related projects. You will also work closely with colleagues at University of New South Wales and IFREMER.
About the opportunity
You will work on a project seeking to further our understanding of vertical and lateral ocean transport due to fronts and eddies. The goal of this study is to characterise and understand submesoscale ocean currents that vary over spatial scales of 1 to 10s km and evolve on corresponding time scales of days to weeks.
You will be involved in all major aspects of the project aims described in the position description, including in situ data collection and analysis, initial comparisons with the new SWOT satellite and other remote-sensing data, and development of satellite inversion algorithms.
