  • Report to directly to the Chief Investigator
  • Remuneration at Academic Level B ($98,495 - $116,965) + 17% superannuation

About You & the Role

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Establish and deliver high quality research/scholarly activities independently and as collaboratively with the Centre of Excellence’s national and international network of participants producing and presenting impactful research outputs in the area of evolution and distribution of automated decision-making systems, including their technological, social and regulatory aspects
  • Prepare and generate competitive research outcomes through producing & delivering relevant high-quality refereed journals, reports and books
  • Actively participate and presenting research outputs at meetings, conferences and research forums and networking with external stakeholders
  • Contribute and promote the Centre’s research programs output to the public and debate via media, industry and/or policy engagement
  • Collaborate and support the University and ARC Centre’s in promoting strong research culture and high standard of research ethics & integrity as well as nurturing strong relationships with the community and collaborators in developing excellent research strategy according to the aims and objectives of University

You will have:

    • Prior experience in developing and/or using social, cultural or historical research methods, including digital methods in a relevant research context is highly regarded
    • Proven track record of published work and scholarly research writing skills including scholarly articles in high-quality refereed journals, book chapters, and/or books
    • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently both as a member of a research team and independently when required, as well as the ability to build effective networks with colleagues, stakeholders and research collaborators to meet project outcomes and milestones
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills to meet demand of workloads and competing priorities
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal) equipped with sound problem-solving and analytical skills to communicate and present research findings, concepts and problem-solve challenging situations or scenario


Mandatory: PhD qualified PhD in a relevant discipline area, such as media and communication studies, histories and social studies of technology, or economic geography, within the past 5 years at the time of appointment, not including periods of career interruption due to carer’s responsibilities, parental leave, illness, or disability.

Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children check.
