Research Staff (M/F/D) – Building Trust in a Context-Aware Intelligent System

fortiss is the research institute of the Free State of Bavaria for the development of software-intensive systems with headquarters in Munich. The scientists at the institute cooperate in research, development and transfer projects with universities and technology companies in Bavaria, Germany and Europe. The focus is on research into state-of-the-art methods, techniques and tools for the development of software- and AI-based technologies for dependable, secure cyber-physical systems such as the Internet of Things (IoT). fortiss is organized in the legal form of a non-profit limited liability company. Shareholders are the Free State of Bavaria (majority shareholder) and the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der angewandten Forschung e.V.

The mission of the Human-centered Engineering (HCE) at fortiss is to incorporate human behavior as well as machine intelligence to improve human interaction and collaboration with systems and processes. The integration of user-centered approaches into industrial, cost-effective design processes aims to improve the usability of systems.

In this project, we search for a new team member:

Research Staff (m/f/d) – Building Trust in a context-aware intelligent System

Your tasks:

• Developing technique and concept for a context-aware intelligent system
• Planning, implementation and evaluation of qualitative and quantitative user research and tests
• Analyzing the state of the art and current research results
• Organizing workshops for both internal and external partners
• Publication at top conferences and journals in the field of Intelligent User Interface, Human-Computer-Interaction, Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning

Your profile:

• An outstanding university degree (M.Sc. or higher) in Human-Computer-Interaction, Computer Science, Human Factors or related disciplines
• Excellent knowledge of user-centered-development paradigm as well as qualitative and quantitative methods of evaluating technical systems
• Good knowledge of collaborative decision making, situation awareness and explainable artificial intelligent
• Practical proficiency with programming languages and tools (e.g. C, C# or Java)
• Analytical thinking as well as independent and structured work
• Self-initiative, commitment, and enthusiasm for new tasks
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Fluent proficiency in both spoken and written English, a plus with good German language skill
