Position Summary

Indiana University Bloomington (IUB) is engaged in a multi-year initiative to expand its faculty in biomedical engineering. We invite applications for multiple tenure-track/tenured faculty positions at all ranks (assistant, associate, or full professor) to join Intelligent Systems Engineering, or other departments such as Computer Science and Informatics within the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering.

We welcome candidates specializing in experimental, translational, computational, and/or AI research, developing engineering systems, technologies, and platforms. Areas of interest include (but are not limited to):

1. Imaging and Biomedical Devices:

  • Advanced biomedical imaging technologies (neuroimaging, optical imaging, ultrasonic imaging)

  • Multimodal and hybrid imaging systems

  • Wearable physiological sensors

  • Point-of-care diagnostic devices and biosensors

  • Portable and miniaturized diagnostic platforms

  • Microfluidic-based biosensing systems

  • Image-guided intervention systems

  • Digital healthcare systems and real-time physiological monitoring technologies

  • Multimodal data integration and analysis for imaging and sensing

2. Human-Centered Models and Systems:

  • Human stem cell–derived organoids and patient-derived organoids

  • Organ-on-chip platforms and microphysiological systems (MPS)

  • 3D bioprinting of tissues and organs

  • Advanced biofabrication techniques and integrated multi-organ models

  • High-content functional screening systems

  • Biomedical digital twins

  • Computational modeling of living systems

  • AI-driven physiological and pathological modeling

  • High-performance computing (HPC) for biological simulations

  • Multimodal data integration and analysis

  • New approach methodologies (NAMs)

3. Precision Medicine and Biomedical Data:

  • Spatial transcriptomics and spatial omics integration

  • CRISPR and advanced gene editing technologies

  • Epigenetic profiling and modulation

  • Biomarker discovery and validation

  • Personalized therapeutic design and clinical decision support systems

  • Longitudinal health data integration

  • Genomic and multi-omics data analysis

  • AI and machine learning for precision diagnostics

  • Predictive modeling of treatment outcomes

  • Biomedical big data analytics and real-time health monitoring

  • Privacy-preserving health data sharing

Candidates should complement existing strengths at Indiana University and new initiatives in synthetic biology, chemical biology, biohealth informatics, robotics, nanoengineering & microelectronics, and toxicology. Candidates interested in entrepreneurial activity are encouraged.

  • Engage with professional communities and local community initiatives

Faculty members are expected to work on campus in Bloomington, Indiana. IU evaluates tenure and promotion based on research, teaching, and service. Candidates are encouraged to engage in technology transfer, industry collaboration, and company development.
