(ref. BAP-2023-510)
The research will take place within the research group of Prof. Jeremy Harvey (Theoretical and Computational Chemistry Group) within the Division of Quantum and Physical Chemistry. The Division's research focuses on building computational models of chemical phenomena by applying the fundamental laws of quantum mechanics. The group of Prof. Harvey particularly focuses on modelling structure, energetics and reactivity using molecular dynamics and quantum chemical methods. The research will be performed in close collaboration with members of the computational chemistry group at Janssen Research and Development, in Beerse under the co- supervision of Dr. Edgar Jacoby. There will also be collaboration with Professor Thierry Langer from the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Vienna.
Responsibilities
- The overall goal of the DynaPhor project is to improve the science and impact of virtual screening. The main planned knowledge acquisition resides in the better understanding of the currently limiting factors for pharmacophore-based virtual screening.
- We are looking for a highly motivated post-doctoral researcher with a background in biomolecular simulations and perhaps in quantum chemical modelling to develop protocols for including molecular dynamics simulation techniques and quantum mechanical/molecular mechanical (QM/MM) hybrid methods in the pharmacophore screening workflow. The successful candidate will work in Leuven and Beerse. The overall goal of the DynaPhor project is to improve the science and impact of virtual screening. Profile
- PhD in Biochemistry, Chemistry, or a related field
- Extensive experience of performing biomolecular simulation and a track record of published work in the area
- Some experience of quantum chemical modelling and/or of hybrid QM/MM methods is desirable
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- An experience of collaborative research projects is desirable
Offer
The successful candidate will be offered a post-doc position at KU Leuven in the Theoretical and Computational Chemistry group, initially for a period of 1 year, with possible extension to 2 years. The appointed candidate will work closely with colleagues at Janssen including the opportunity for placement periods in Beerse.
