The University of Queensland (UQ) School of Communication and Arts is a large, research-intensive unit with an international reputation for outstanding research and teaching in Professional and Creative Writing, Literature, Communication, Cultural Studies, Media Studies, Public Relations, Journalism, Drama, Film and Television Studies, and Art History.
Our academics are widely published internationally and have extensive research backgrounds.
The School is based at the St Lucia campus as part of the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences.
The School of Communication and Arts is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from Tutors and Facilitators to be engaged on a casual basis to teach into our School courses.
Casual Academics at UQ’s School of Communication and Arts play a significant role in the overall student experience. Successful candidates will contribute to the education of undergraduate and/or postgraduate students within the School by:
Preparing and delivering lectures, seminars, and tutorials
Marking assessment items
Conducting student consultations
Fostering a positive learning environment
Facilitators are also being sought to assist in activity-based seminars, tutorials, and workshops.
These positions are located at our St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses and located just 7 km from Brisbane’s city centre.
Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides and with outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides an ideal work environment — combining a vibrant campus life with the tradition of an established university.
As a Casual Academic, you will have:
A minimum of an undergraduate degree with a GPA of 5.0 or higher
Enrolment in a relevant postgraduate program (coursework or HDR), and/or
Relevant industry experience ideally within a business or related discipline
Additional desirable attributes include:
Demonstrated and effective teaching skills, supported by evaluations or other evidence
Proficiency in eLearning systems such as Blackboard (or the ability to quickly learn new systems)
Experience in public speaking and leading small groups
Proven ability to work autonomously and meet deadlines
