Position description

The UCLA Joint Institute for Regional Earth System Science and Engineering (JIFRESSE) invites applications for a position of Assistant Project Scientist whose research will focus on analysis of observations and model simulations. The research involves:
• Develop and apply state-of-the-art numerical modeling technique to model fault mechanics and earthquake cycle dynamics
• Integrate space geodesy and in-situ observations with numerical modeling to study faulting behaviors in plate boundary zones
• Improve the algorithm and efficiency of earthquake simulation code and develop novel ways for fault transient analysis
• Develop advanced noise mitigation strategy and algorithms for improved remote sensing deformation mapping



Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

1) Ph.D. in geophysics, applied physics or engineering and a minimum of 3 years in relevant fields;
2) Extensive knowledge of earth science and a strong background in numerical fault mechanics modeling
3) Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
