At the Department of Internal Medicine and Clinical Nutrition, research in several different areas are conducted, such as endocrinology, hematology, gastroenterology, hypertension, respiratory medicine and allergology and clinical nutrition. Research is focused on nutrition status, body composition and energy metabolism. The research is conducted in close cooperation with health care at both the Sahlgrenska University Hospital and the primary health care as well as with the division of Food and Nutrition Science, Department of Biology and Biological Engineering at Chalmers University of Technology. In clinical nutrition, research focuses on metabolism, diabetes, biomarkers of food, maternal and child nutrition and health, randomized clinical trials with dietary interventions and nutritional epidemiology.

Anna Winkvist’s research group studies the impact of diet on risk factors for cardiometabolic and inflammatory diseases such as gestational diabetes mellitus, rheumatoid arthritis and cardiovascular diseases. The projects within the group include clinical intervention studies in collaboration with the health care in the Västra Götaland Region, Region Stockholm and Region Västerbotten as well as Chalmers University of Technology. The research is supported by grants from the Swedish Research Council for Health, Working Life and Welfare, ALF and the Swedish Research Council. 

Job assignments

The researcher will work as study coordinator for a clinical intervention trial with healthy Nordic diet among women with gestational diabetes mellitus and a clinical intervention trial with a diet optimized for positive influence on the gut microbiota and its effects on risk factors for cardiometabolic diseases among overweight and normal weight women and men. Coordination of smaller studies to validate measurements of appetite and evaluations of diet biomarkers also are included. The holder of the position will be responsible for developing stud protocols including diet plans, recruitment of study participants, contact with participants and antenatal care, data collection and data processing. The work also includes writing of grant applications and scientific publications jointly with other members of the research group, as well as some teaching of students on bachelor’s and master’s level within the Dietetics programme.


The candidate should be a registered dietitian, with a PhD in nutrition or the equivalent and with documented scientific productivity. Priority in the assessment of applicants’ merits will be given to experience of coordinating and conducting diet interventions, and research in methods of assessing nutritional intake and status. Previous experience in maternal nutrition is a merit. Ability of the applicant to independently plan, organize and structure the work is a requirement. The capability to collaborate with others, as well as to work independently is of great importance. Also, proficiency in data management, data analysis and successful authorship of scientific publications will be evaluated. Excellent communicative skills are required, including fluency in oral and written scientific Swedish and English. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.
