Project Overview

We are looking to fill a Researcher II (postdoc) position in morphology or syntax at the Department of Czech Language.

The successful candidate will work on the project:

“Gradience and variation in natural language” (PI: Guy Tabachnick)

The project focuses on:

  • Quantitative and theoretical research of gradience and variable phenomena
  • Inflectional paradigms
  • Syntax of clitics
  • Other syntactic phenomena

Main Job Content

The role includes:

  • Independent specialized research and development work
  • Work within a research team/group
  • Publishing research results (ideally in Q1 journals)
  • Presenting research at conferences

Research focus areas:

  • Quantitative research:Theoretical analysis of linguistic phenomena
    • Corpus studies
    • Experiments (e.g., wug tests)
    • Gradience and variable phenomena

Subject areas:

  • Inflectional allomorphy and paradigm organization
  • Syntax (especially agreement and clitics)
  • Phonology–syntax interaction

Additional Duties

  • Administrative tasks related to the position

Candidate Requirements

  • PhD in linguistics or related field
    • Ideally completed by start date or shortly after
  • At least 2 publications in WoS/Scopus (last 3 years preferred)Prior research experience in relevant topic (advantage)
    • At least one as first/corresponding author
  • Experience in research projects (advantage)

Language Requirements

  • English: C1 level
  • Czech: not required
