Position Overview

Argonne is seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Appointee to advance electrochemical processing in molten salt electrolytes, supporting the recycling of nuclear fuel for next-generation reactors. The role focuses on developing and optimizing electrochemical separations to recover actinides and rare earths from complex fuel streams.


Key Responsibilities

  • Apply electrochemical engineering to scale oxide reduction and electrorefining processes

  • Develop and characterize new electrochemical reactions and materials

  • Perform electroanalytical measurements (e.g., cyclic voltammetry, EIS)

  • Conduct experiments, troubleshoot systems, and maintain equipment

  • Communicate findings via reports, presentations, and publications

  • Support proposal development to expand molten salt electrochemistry programs


Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Nuclear Engineering, Materials Science, or related field (within 5 years)

  • Experience in electrochemistry, materials science, or electrochemical engineering

  • Proficiency in experimental design, analysis, and problem-solving

  • Strong communication skills (written and oral)

  • Must be a U.S. citizen and pass a background check and drug screening


Desired Skills

  • Experience with molten salt systems, actinide chemistry, or glovebox operations

  • Familiarity with hazardous materials handling

  • Interest in nuclear fuel cycle technologies
