About the FSTM

The University of Luxembourg is an international research university with a distinctly multilingual and interdisciplinary character.

The Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine (FSTM) at the University of Luxembourg contributes multidisciplinary expertise in the fields of Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Life Sciences and Medicine.
Through its dual mission of teaching and research, the FSTM seeks to generate and disseminate knowledge and train new generations of responsible citizens in order to better understand, explain and advance society and environment we live in.

Your role

A high-performance solar cell is composed of a carefully engineered stack of materials, each with specific properties designed to optimize electron-hole generation and extraction while minimizing recombination both at the interfaces and within the bulk material. The quality of these interfaces plays a critical role for the functionality of the solar cell.

During this two-year project, the postdoctoral researcher will perform scanning probe microscopy to analyze high-performance solar cells such as halide perovskites, Cu(In,Ga)Se2 and tandem devices. The measurements will be conducted on the cross-sections of operational devices, enabling the examination of all relevant interfaces with nanometer-scale resolution. The research will be conducted within the Surface and Interface Science Group of Prof. Alex Redinger (https://www.redingerlab.lu/).

Your profile
  • The candidate must hold a Ph.D. in Physics, Materials Science, or Chemistry, with outstanding academic performance and a strong record of scientific publications.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English are essential.
  • A robust background in Scanning Probe Techniques is required.
  • Experience with ultra-high vacuum systems is highly valued.
  • Experience with solar cell synthesis is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of solid-state physics, semiconductors, solar cells, and surface science is expected.
  • Experience in Perovskite or Cu(In,Ga)Se2 materials and/or photovoltaics is preferred but not mandatory.
  • International experience is an asset.
