Position Overview

The Department of Microbiology seeks outstanding faculty members in any area of microbiology, with particular interest in:

  • Host-pathogen interactions

  • Viral and bacterial pathogenesis

  • Emerging infectious diseases

Faculty will have access to and potential alignment with the Howard T. Ricketts Laboratory (HTRL) at Argonne National Laboratory.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting independent, high-impact research

  • Teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses (including potential medical school teaching)

  • Collaborating across departments and divisions

  • Participating in PhD committees and the Committee on Microbiology


Research Resources

  • HTRL & gnotobiotic animal research

  • Flow cytometry, high-throughput genomics, biocontainment facilities

  • Duchossois Family Institute resources: biorepositories, metagenomics/metabolomics cores, bioinformatics

  • Single-cell genomics facility with computational support

  • Competitive research space and start-up funding


Qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent in microbiology or related field

  • Completion of postdoctoral training

  • Evidence of research excellence

  • Teaching experience and mentoring ability
