The Institute of Clinical Sciences is one of six Institutes within Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg. We conduct research and education that puts people's health and quality of life in focus. We represent 16 different research areas and are divided into four sections.  Through a fruitful collaboration with the healthcare and Sahlgrenska University Hospital, we have developed joint projects and meeting places that benefits both health care and research. 

The Department of Plastic Surgery conducts clinical research in the clinical areas that the plastic surgery specialty handles. Typical research areas are craniofacial surgery, surgery for cleft lip and palate, breast reconstruction, microsurgery, gender confirmation surgery and surgery for excess skin. A smaller part includes experimental research where the goal is to produce tissues such as fat, cartilage and skin for plastic surgical reconstructions. 

The research group that is now looking for an employee works with 3D bioprinting of adipose tissue. For a decade, they have developed techniques in several different animal models and a main focus is vascularization of 3D bioprinted implants.

Duties 

The position includes working with 3D bioprinting of adipose tissue, skin and cartilage. The printed tissues will be implanted either in animal models (mouse, rat, pig) or in humans. Furthermore, bioprinting in the operating room will be done under sterile conditions.

The work includes planning and carrying out experiments and method development independently and in collaboration with research leaders.

Qualifications 

For the position, the applicant must have a doctorate and a master's degree in biotechnology. Preference will be given to those who have knowledge and skills that are directly applicable to the project. One must be able to perform preparation of bioink, preparation of adipose tissue from the operating room, bioprinting of fat, cartilage and skin, cell culture, nanoindentation, immunohistochemistry. Knowledge in animal experiments (mouse, rat, pig), FACS, TOF-SIMS is an advantage.

Employment 

The position is a full-time, fixed-term appointment for 10 (ten) months, based at the Institute of Clinical Sciences, Department of Plastic Surgery. Start date: 2026-12-01
