The Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences (FHSE) brings together expertise from the humanities, linguistics, cognitive sciences, social and educational sciences. People from across 20 disciplines are working within the Faculty. Along with the disciplinary approach a very ambitious interdisciplinary research culture has been developed.

The faculty’s research and teaching focuses on social, economic, political and educational issues with the common goal of contributing to an inclusive, open and resourceful society. The FHSE offers six Bachelor and twenty Master degrees and a doctoral school providing students with the necessary knowledge and high-qualified skills to succeed in their future career.

Your Role...

The Core Project IMILUX - Immigration in Luxembourg: Probing Health and Its Socioeconomic Determinants in Older Immigrant Population aims to investigate socioeconomic, cultural, and health variables related to immigration and aging. We use an integrated approach with data from different sources (databases and interviews) to provide holistic assessments of health in older immigrants in Luxembourg, exploring health disparities between immigrants and non-immigrants. The project is developed at the University of Luxembourg, in the Department of Social Science - IRSEI institute, under the leadership of Dr. Ana Carolina Teixeira Santos. Tasks/Responsibilities

The research specialist will work at the Department of Social Science under the supervision of Dr. Ana Carolina Teixeira Santos and Prof. Dr. Anja Leist.

The R&D specialist will:

  • Participate in the research initiatives of the IMILUX and support the team in the planning and coordinating project events
  • Conduct literature reviews within the project's topic area
  • Engage in the preparation of project deliverables, publications, white papers, and reports
  • Actively participate in participant recruitment, conducting interviews, transcribing recorded content, and supporting qualitative analysis
  • Participate in database creation and data verification, as well as quantitative data analyses
  • Promote collaboration and interaction among policymakers, practitioners, and researchers within the migration field

What we expect from you…
  • Possession of a Masters’ degree (or equivalent) in any field within the Human and Social Sciences, Psychology, or a related discipline
  • Knowledge of qualitative research methods, including interview and content analysis
  • Proficiency in Portuguese will be prioritized
  • Motivation to work with immigrants and older adults and an aspiration to conduct high-level research in this field
  • Strong ability to work independently, with a personal commitment to excellence, and the capacity to perform under pressure, coupled with effective cooperation skills
  • Previous publications in the field will be highly valued
  • Familiarity with quantitative research methods, especially multilevel modeling, will be highly valued, along with proficiency in programming skills
