Department of Dermatology

Scientist in Allergy Research

Our research activities include basic, translational, and clinical research in the field of dermatology, including skin cancer, inflammatory skin disorders, and allergy. In part, the research is focused on pathogenesis and diagnosis of disease, but also on therapy. Especially strong interest and expertise have developed in the field of immunotherapy of dermatological disorders. Next to clinical research, the department is accordingly well equipped for experimentally and pre-clinical research utilising tissue cultures and rodents, and with methods of molecular biology, immunology, histology, as well as bioinformatics.

Your responsibilities

The appointed scientist will conduct experimental research in allergy and especially allergen immunotherapy. The work is done in close collaboration with other researchers in the department as well as with collaborators from a Zurich-based Biotech company. The scientist will be performing experiments with cell cultures and with mice, and she/he should have experience in both, including injections, organ sampling, and culturing of primary cells. Moreover, the candidate scientist is expected to have hand-on experience with immunological and molecular assessment methods such as flow cytometry, ELISA/ELISPOT, and qPCR. The project is financially supported by the Swiss Federation through Innosuisse.

Your profile

The candidate must hold a Master's degree in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, pharmacy, or in an equivalent field. The candidate will be ambitious, creative, highly motivated, and experience in experimental research. Ideal candidates will have strong laboratory and organisation skills and have practical experience into the required methods. As the work involves handling and experimentation with mice, the candidate is expected to have obtained approval for animal work equivalent to LTK Modul 1 or FELASA B.
