The Department of Architecture and Built Environment has a strong tradition of integrating scientific and artistic research in architecture and is the first department in Sweden authorized to award a doctoral degree in fine arts in architecture.

The successful candidate will primarily join Architecture, Form and Design, with possible placement in another area depending on specialization.
Architectural Design with Focus on Artistic Research in Architecture
Architectural design is understood as a spatial and material practice that generates social, cultural, and ideological meaning. The subject explores architecture as both an academic discipline and professional practice, including:
Norm-critical and speculative architectural design
Material experimentation and form generation
Research-by-Design methodologies
Design-driven knowledge production
Critical reflection on architectural processes and tools
Artistic research emphasizes investigative, practice-based design processes that bridge academic research and professional practice.
The position includes:
Research within architectural design and artistic research
Teaching at undergraduate, Master’s, and doctoral levels
Supervision of degree projects and PhD students
Active pursuit of external research funding
Collaboration with industry and wider society
Contribution to the development of the research environment
Administrative duties related to the role
Applicants must have:
A PhD or equivalent research or professional competence relevant to the post
Documented teaching expertise
Completed at least five weeks of higher education pedagogy training (or equivalent)
Equal weight will be given to research excellence and teaching expertise, including:
Strong national and international research standing
High-quality teaching across multiple levels and formats
Ability to supervise doctoral students to completion
Ability to collaborate with society and communicate research
Leadership and academic development capacity
Very good oral and written English proficiency
PhD in a relevant subject
Significant research experience at another institution
Documented experience with artistic architectural processes
Minimum 180 ECTS credits in architecture or related spatial design fields
At least 120 ECTS at advanced (Master’s) level
Strong collaboration skills and independent working ability
Successful acquisition of substantial external research funding
Academia–industry collaboration experience
Exhibition and curatorial experience in architecture
Professional architectural practice experience
International teaching, research, or collaboration experience
Secure employment at a public authority
