Subject / Subject Description

IT project management is a cross-disciplinary research area combining social sciences, behavioural sciences, and computer science. The research area focuses amongst others on developing theories and practices concerning software project management.

In software-intensive contexts, IT project management integrates software development methodologies with theories and practices for managing distributed, multidisciplinary teams and with knowledge on business and change strategies in software organizations. It also includes empirical investigations of AI-driven software development and its consequences.


Main Responsibilities

Main duties as Associate Senior Lecturer include research, teaching and supervision at the undergraduate, master's and postgraduate level. Examples of courses included here are Monitoring and control of IT projects and Trends in project management.

The occupant of the position is expected to strengthen the scientific content and practical relevance of the education in the area of software project management methods as well as in empirical research methods for software project management and help shape education and research aligned with emerging AI-enabled software development practices.

The major part of the research will encompass at the intersection of software development and IT project management, with a strong emphasis on the future of AI-driven software development (e.g., AI-driven workflows, human–AI collaboration in engineering teams, evolving roles and responsibilities in teams, quality and safety in AI-enabled development, and impacts on processes and coordination patterns) resulting in academic publications on this topic.

The occupant of the position is expected to initiate and contribute to externally funded research, collaborate with industry and public-sector partners, and participate in interdisciplinary initiatives (where relevant).

The employment is shared between research 55 percent and teaching 45 percent of full time.


Qualification Requirements

Eligible applicants for the position of Associate Senior Lecturer should hold a PhD in computer and systems sciences with a specialization relevant to software project management or have equivalent research skills. Priority will be given in the first instance, to applicants who received a PhD or equivalent qualifications no more than seven years before the deadline for applications. However, an applicant who has received such a degree earlier may be considered under special circumstances (e.g., illness, parental leave).

The applicant must have the ability to cooperate with colleagues and other skills required to meet the demands of the position.

The applicant must have a documented ability to use English in speech and writing at a professional level. This can be demonstrated through teaching experience in English or a certificate of language skills corresponding to at least B2 level (CEFR).


Assessment Criteria

Special emphasis will be placed on:

  • Research skills in empirical studies of software project management methods
  • Management of distributed multidisciplinary software teams
  • AI-enabled / AI-driven software engineering methods and practices

Strong emphasis will be placed on:

  • Teaching experience at undergraduate and master’s level
  • Ability to teach online courses, digital assessment, and thesis supervision
  • A detailed research plan covering the employment period
  • Collaboration skills and teamwork ability
  • Ability to obtain external research funding

Emphasis will also be placed on:

  • Administrative skills
  • Collaboration with industry and society
  • Dissemination of research results
  • Teaching and learning in higher education (7.5 credits or equivalent is a merit)

About the Employment

Employment as an associate senior lecturer is limited to four years in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100). The purpose is to enable development into a senior academic position.

Promotion to senior lecturer is possible if requirements are met according to university rules and promotion criteria.

If the applicant lacks 7.5 credits in teaching and learning in higher education, this must be completed within the first two years.

After two years, administrative and pedagogical tasks may require knowledge of Swedish.
