Faculty of Information Technology is seeking to recruit a faculty member to the position of Senior  Lecturer in Cyber Security, as of 3.8.2020 or as soon as possible thereafter in effect until further notice. 

The Faculty of Information Technology at the University of Jyväskylä is the first and largest in its field in Finland. A Mission of the Faculty is to create science based digital future. In research, education and stakeholder collaboration, the Faculty combines comprehensively the viewpoints of technology, information, organizations, business and people. The IT Faculty employs 180 people and, currently, there are 2400 undergraduate students and 150 postgraduate students. Teaching is given both in Finnish and in English.

The Master's Program in Cyber Security at the University of Jyväskylä is the only one of its kind in Finland. The Master's program provides students with state-of-the-art knowledge in cyber security.

The Senior Lecturer works in the Faculty of Information Technology of the University of Jyväskylä in cyber security teaching and research. Teaching in the cyber security master's program is emphasised in this position, especially themes related to the technological aspects of cyber security, such as the technologies needed to produce cyber security, various vulnerabilities of computer systems and protection against them. The Senior Lecturer also participates in the development of cyber security teaching and research, thesis instruction, student selection and other assignments. Tasks also include actively applying for research funding and active research collaboration with faculty research staff.

The duties, qualification requirements and language skills of Senior Lecturer are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. The selected person is required to have a command of Finnish language. In certain cases, the University may grant exemption from this requirement. A good command of English language and an ability to teach in English are regarded as advantageous for the applicant. 

The aim of the faculty is to be the leading cyber security research institute in Finland and Europe in selected areas of focus. The research and publication profile of the incoming university lecturer must be of a level that supports the achievement of this goal. The individual is required to carry out a high level of scientific research and to provide high-quality research-based teaching. In addition, we appreciate openness and capability to continuously expand one's competence in the evolving information technology domain, good collaboration skils, demonstrated capability to develop teaching and taking responsibility on organising education.

The following aspects are taken into account when assessing an applicant’s merits: academic work, teaching experience and pedagogical training, produced learning materials, other teaching merits and, if necessary, test lectures to demonstrate teaching skills, as well as other merits relevant to the position.

The salary will be based on level 5-7 of the job requirement scheme for teaching and research staff in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal performance will be paid. The annual salary range will be approximately 42 500 – 70 000 EUR (gross income, including holiday bonus).

A trial period of six months will be used when the position is first filled.
