About the Role

The School of Business and Management (SBM) seeks to recruit an outstanding educator to a Senior Lectureship in Project Management and Entrepreneurship. This is a Teaching and Scholarship (T&S) focused position which offers an exceptional opportunity for a passionate educator and educational leader to lead on the School’s extra-curricular support for students seeking to develop skills in project management, as well as providing innovative teaching in these areas in the School’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

About You

Applicants for the Senior Lectureship will be academics with strong teaching and educational leadership records, qualified to at least post-doctoral level with a specialism in entrepreneurship and project management, and will ideally have practitioner experience. Applicants should be able to demonstrate the capacity for excellent teaching in a UK university context, for driving innovation in teaching and learning.

All applicants should demonstrate the capacity to teach and supervise effectively across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Applicants must provide evidence of their teaching abilities, drawing on their experience. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the teaching on programmes, such as our MSc in Business Analytics, that focus on the application of data analytics and machine learning to business challenges. Students on these programmes expect to learn about opportunities and challenges of digital entrepreneurship and require a strong foundation in project management techniques appropriate to highly dynamic environments. The rapid pace of change in these fields will necessitate frequent updates to teaching materials and content.

Colleagues on T&S contracts have access to a full range of professional development support, including an annual allowance to support their scholarship or pedagogical activities. Queen Mary recently revised the college’s promotion guidelines to provide comprehensive and clear promotion routes for T&S staff up to and including the academic rank of professor.

About the School of Business and Management, and the Department of Business Analytics and Applied Economics

The School of Business and Management is one of the eight schools in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The School has been undergoing a period of rapid growth, doubling our number of academic staff over the last five years. We presently have 90 academic staff. We have over 1,600 undergraduate business studies students plus approximately 800 students taking business in combination with other degree subjects within QMUL. At the post-graduate level we have approximately 800 MSc students and a well-established doctoral programme of around 80 doctoral students.

SBM’s core purpose is to promote social justice, sustainability and good governance in the management of private, public and voluntary organisations through our research and education. We are a distinctive School that takes a humanities and social science-led approach to our scholarship, and are now the largest school within QMUL’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, with its traditional strengths as a site of critical thinking in the humanities, law, history, geography and politics.

The Department of Business Analytics and Applied Economics focuses on solutions to technological, social and environmental challenges through data analysis. Our core value is collegiality. Departmental colleagues are committed to collective excellence in teaching and research in Business Analytics and Applied Economics and respect each other's abilities to work toward that purpose. The Department is research-led, and we publish in peer reviewed journals and monographs of leading university presses. Our research addresses the needs of practitioners across industry and government by applying cutting-edge research methods, focusing on significant technological, social and environmental challenges. Drawing on this work, research-led teaching equips students to respond to challenges on the basis of careful analysis and the application of sound methods and processes. The post is based at the Mile End Campus in London. It is a full time, permanent appointment, and is available from 1st August 2021. The starting salary will be Grade 7, in the range of £55,840 - £62,415 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
