Department

The position is placed at the newly formed Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, which merges the Centre for Environmental and Climate Science, the Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science, and the Department of Geology. The department focuses on climate change, biodiversity, geo-resources, and social justice.


Job Description

This is a career-development position aimed at developing the holder’s independence as a researcher and educator.

Duties:

  • Primarily research (80% of working hours), including building a research group and developing the research and educational environment.

  • Teaching in basic and doctoral education (up to 20%), including supervision of undergraduate and doctoral students.

  • Participating in departmental duties and the mandatory Mistra leadership programme.

  • Actively seeking external funding and fostering collaboration within the department, strategic research areas (BECC, MERGE), government agencies, and other organisations.

  • Developing and applying quantitative methodologies for assessing multiple benefits of nature-based solutions (NBS), using approaches such as heuristic models, mathematical programming, machine learning, and multi-objective optimisation.

Start-up Package: Funds to support a doctoral student, a postdoc, and other research costs, with potential additional support from BECC.


Qualifications

Required:

  • PhD in Environmental Science or a relevant field.

  • Ability to conduct high-quality research and develop quantitative assessments of NBS for multiple societal objectives.

  • Strong teaching skills in basic, advanced, and doctoral courses.

  • Experience in research outside the institution of doctoral training.

  • Strong collaboration, initiative, and communication skills in English.

Desirable / Merit:

  • Relevant postdoctoral experience.

  • Expertise in computational and modelling methods.

  • Ability to apply for and secure external research funding.

  • Experience in supervision or teaching in environmental science or related subjects.

  • Pedagogical training in higher education supervision and teaching.

  • Project management experience and leadership interest.


Promotion

The position offers the opportunity for promotion to senior lecturer / assistant professor:

  • Achieving CEFR B1 level in Swedish is required for promotion.

  • Promotion requires demonstrated high-quality research, teaching ability, supervision of doctoral students, societal engagement, and academic leadership.
