Position Overview

  • Title: Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Law

  • Location: Wills Memorial Building and Berkeley Square, Bristol, UK

  • Start Date: 3rd August 2026 (or as soon as possible thereafter)

  • Contract Type: Open-ended, full-time (part-time requests considered)

  • Salary:

    • Grade K: £50,253 – £58,225 per annum

    • Grade L: £59,996 – £67,468 per annum

  • Application Deadline: 23:59 UK time, Sunday 4th January 2026

  • Pathways: Pathway 1 (Research-focused) or Pathway 3 (Teaching-focused)


Role and Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including foundational subjects and, if possible, Company Law

  • Supervise research students

  • Produce high-quality research publications (for Pathway 1) or demonstrate strong pedagogical expertise (for Pathway 3)

  • Participate in departmental and faculty service, including academic administration

  • Contribute to curriculum design and development (especially Pathway 3)

  • Engage with the Law School’s strategy and mission to deliver excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement


Qualifications

  • Relevant postgraduate degree or professional equivalent

  • Strong undergraduate honours degree in Law or law-related subject

  • Research and/or teaching or practical expertise in Criminal Law and/or Law of Evidence

  • For Pathway 1: Strong track record of research (3* or 4* REF2021 quality) or clear potential to achieve it

  • For Pathway 3: Demonstrated or potential excellence in pedagogy and curriculum design

  • Experience teaching undergraduate and/or postgraduate students, or equivalent practical experience

  • Broad knowledge and deep expertise in the chosen area(s)

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
